Forum Post: RE: Getting started with CCS and CC3000

So, it doesn't really help. That's what I used before. There are several problems:

  • The firmware download doesn't specify the version, so I'm not sure which version I have. I just now downloaded it, so I assume it's 1.10.
  • I skipped the IAR steps and did the CCS steps, since that's what I have installed. It's kind of lame the project doesn't know how to build itself in the proper order, but whatever, once I found the instructions, I got it to build.
  • The start of the wiki page says it's highly recommended to use the Patch Programmer to install the patches service pack. Is that changing firmware on the CC3000 itself, or the MS-430FRAM board?
  • The Patch Programmer, done via "Download CC3000 Patch Programmer," reported "ATTENTION: Default options used due to invalid argument list." It's not entirely clear if the patching succeeded, but it doesn't have anything that looks like an error reported after that.
  • Once I finish compiling, and I click the Debug button, it flashes the MSP and breaks at the top of main(). The next step on the Wiki is "Connecting the CC3000 Device to a PC." This is confusing, because at this point the CC3000 is already connected to the MSP430 board (step 1), the USB is connected (step 2), steps 3 & 4 tell me to download IAR, but I've downloaded CCS, do I now need to go get IAR?
  • The next section is "Configuring HyperTerminal." This is where I got stuck yesterday. If I try to do this step now, it doesn't work, because CCS and the debugger have the device. HyperTerminal can't connect. So I quit CCS. Now HT can connect.
  • The ASCII setup instructions seem to be duplicated.
  • The next thing says "If the configuration is correct, powering up the MSP430FRAM Board displays the HyperTerminal string shown below." Unfortunately, the board is already powered up. I can't disconnect it, because the USB connection will be lost and HT will get confused.
  • The reset does not seem to cause the string to appear, either. No other LEDs light up (besides the PWR LED).

Following the instructions as closely as I can, I get nowhere.
