This is not really a bug, but more of a lack of implementation problem. You will have to manually implement the other configuration as you suggested as I had to in my project.
There is however, a bug that I have been noticing. This has to do with bytes that go missing during ISR RX on the UART port. I have begun a discussion with Nick (TI Employee) over here: http://e2e.ti.com/support/low_power_rf/f/538/t/227515.aspx
