Forum Post: RE: CC2540 Questions and Options

That sounds good, Nick. Some follow up questions...

What's the difference between the CC2541 and the CC2540?

Can you help me understand the sizing on the CC2541 page:
71.2x36x15.5 mm -- That's too big, is there a casing on this?
57x25x1.5 mm (PCB) -- This size works for our needs...is the PCB a separate purchase? Is this the unit we get when going into higher volume production?

Production questions:
1) If we encapsulate into a 2x3x3/16" space, is there an issue with fitting 3 more CR2032's? Do we need 4 batteries to go 1yr or are we way overdoing it?
2) Are there any space issues with adding the accelerometer to the PCB? What do we need to know going into production?

The specs from the accelerometer that's linked from the CC2541 page is below. Can you estimate the power consumption? Our system needs are: 8 samples per second, usage is 2hrs per day and need to power for 1yr.
Kionix: KXTJ9
Features:

  • Low current consumption: 10 µA in standby, 10 µA at low resolution, and 325 µA at high resolution
  • Internal voltage regulator
  • Up to 14-bit resolution
  • Supply voltage range: 1.8 V to 3.6 V
  • ±2g, ±4g or ±8g user-selectable ranges
  • I2C digital communication interface
  • Embedded features
  • User-configurable wake-up function
  • Self-test function
  • RoHS compliant

Thanks,
Eric
