Forum Post: RE: CC8531 Master Providing USB Sourced I2S data to Master Codec in Absence of Wireless Slave

Hi Kjetil and Patrick,

Thanks for your replies.

The reason for my interest in CC8531 is, I desire to use the same device and thus pcb layout for two product versions, one with wireless capability and one non-wireless USB Audio interface. Also, design requirements dictate more than 16 bit resolution for both applications and the CC8531 appears to have 24 bit capability (i.e. reference to PCME24 for wireless transmission).

If you don't mind, I have another way of asking the question: If the CC8531 is programmed to operate in Host Controlled mode, is it possible to use an EHIF command to set a flag or status register bit that will indicate to (fool) the CC8531 into thinking there is a Protocol Slave on the network and therefore activate audio data out on I2S?

Para. 1.3.3 of the Family Users Guide SWRU250K states the following:

On protocol slaves, the host processor must manually ...
- Join and re-join the desired network at startup and whenever network connection is lost
- Select which logical audio channels to subscribe to after joining

The documentation leads me to think there might be a way of getting the Master CC8531 to send audio data to it's on-board codec in the absence of a wireless slave (I'm using the Headset reference design with AIC3204 codec).

Thanks again and sorry if this is a little complex.

Paul
