Forum Post: Couple of basic questions about using host-controlled CC85xx

Hi,

Sorry for basic questions, I'm new to in-depth aspects of PurePath:

1) We are planning to use CC8520 controlled by CC430 MCU via EHIF. We want to use pre-defined configuration provided by PP Configurator, and possibly resort to EHIF later. The question is - does CC8520 allow full spectrum of Host commands with, say, preloaded demo flashed in?

I've noted that after performing Chip Reset, PP Commander allows to read device info (which means EHIF commands are issued, and they do show in a log). Generally, we want to flash CC8520 with PP Configurator and maybe use EHIF later without re-flashing CC8520.

2) How does CC8520 serve button/EHIF-driven requests to alter volume? Does it use codec's facilities by controlling the codec via I2C, or it alters the data in I2S stream?

E.g. there is CC8520 acting as an audio sink, with two buttons used as Vol+/Vol- control, like on CC85xxDK. An AIC3204 codec is connected to it via I2S and I2C, and the codec output goes to headphones. However, we also want to capture I2S data stream with other device connected to same I2S clock pins and data output pins of CC8520. If Vol+/- buttons are used, does that mean that CC8520 will access AIC via I2C to change volume, or it will alter data going out via I2S?

Thanks,

Oleg
