Forum Post: CC1200 4-GFSk settings

Hi,

We are trying to take advantage of the CC1200's 4-GFSK modulation to send 460 Kbps in ~350 KHz of bandwidth.

We've got the CC1200 eval boards and have been experimenting with its 4-GFSk performance. We started out using the 500 KSPS, 4-GFSK pull down example from  the eval software.  That works okay in our cabled PER setup. However, whenever we change any of the parameters away from those in the default example, the performance goes to he'll in a hand basket very quickly.

I realize many things are at work in setting these parameters. Could you please provide some guidelines as to proper settings. We'd like to run 4-GFSK at 230 Ksps (460 KBps) and use 89-90 KHz peak deviation. That deviation gives us the band occupancy we are aiming for in our application (also, your competitor's device - the Si4464 will operate well with those settings).

Putting in the above values (as well as 1.666 MHz for Rx BW) gives us PER rates of 30+ percent. Either I'm not getting a register setting right or the demodulator will not operate reliably at lower deviations when in 4-GFSk - not sure which.

Any assistance would be appreciated. There is precious little in the CC1200 data sheet concerning 4-Fisk operation.
