Forum Post: RE: Can we lower down chip rate of DSSS in order to mitigate the multipath fading?

Hi,

Any Zigbee device should comply with IEEE802.15.4 standard and the usage of DSSS modulation at 2.4 GHz is inevitable.

Moreover, the spread spectrum signals (the DSSS is just one of possible technlogies) are more robust to the multipath propagation than the signals with QAM-modulation. In case of spread spectrum signals the effects of the multipath propagation can be condsidered as impact of the narrowband intererence. This means that the disabling of DSSS without additional enhancements will lead to the performance degradation.

Regards,

Ilya
