Forum Post: CC2530 and wireless connectivity.

Hello,

Together with my collegues, I created custom CC2530 board. Basically it's a circuit from CC2530 Datasheet (page 25) with 2 LED diodes added for very simple "debug" purposes. The chip seems to work and we are able to program it via CC-Debugger. We built 4 circuits like this.

The next approach is to connect all boards into one network with one coordinator and one router.

Unfortunately, it seems like wireless connectivity doesn't work on any device. We tried to program the chips with sample apps provided along with ZStack (i.e. GenericApp, SimpleSwitch, SimpleLight, SampleApp, SimpleApp). One chip was set up to be a coordinator while others were end-devices. The devices didn't connect and all of them got 0xFFFE short addresses after network layer gets initialized. We tried almost all of the possibilities and still we can't make the devices to work.

Today I was working with SmartRF studio all day long without any satisfied results. One device was set up to send random packets continuously. The other one was set up to work with SmartRF studio. "Continous RX" measurements shows RSSI of 1-2 dBm. The devices/antennas are placed around 5 centimeters away from each other.  Moreover we tried with many different antennas made from cables and wires... 5 - 30 centimeters long.

Does anyone could help me and give an idea how to figure out and be 100% sure where is the problem? Do we have to add something extra or modify the schematics from the datasheet?

 Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance. Best regards,

Lukasz Spas
